The Client's internet
sales/provisioning functionality was divided among twelve different
applications with a large Sybase production database.
Inconsistent, inaccurate, and error-prone data proliferated
throughout the database, causing downstream problems and
compromising customer delivery. Prior efforts to address data
integrity were not comprehensive and did not reveal the true
causes, nor did they recommend workable solutions.
Excella analyzed usability and
requirements of each application with specific focus on data
integrity issues. The assessment defined the specific data
integrity issues at the field level, uncovered the true sources of
the integrity problems, and produced an inventory of most affected
areas and proposed remedies. Excella developed a thorough business
case for solution implementation including alternative and
cost-benefit analysis. The assessment also exposed several
weaknesses in previously-proposed solutions. To address the human
factors which also contributed to these problems, Excella created
an entirely new status reporting and release tracking mechanism
which provided tracking and publicity of semi-monthly releases for
twelve applications; designed a more streamlined project plan
focused on only the most critical tasks and deliverables, and
integrated the project plan and status reporting into a common
project-wide communication effort.
