The client, a provider of
comprehensive technical solutions, wanted to expand their
technology service offerings to the Federal government by building
expertise in BEA's WebLogic Integration (WLI) product. As an
alternative to conducting extensive training, The Client believed
it could get a significant jumpstart by reconstructing an existing
purchase request workflow application using WLI to gain valuable
implementation experience. While The Client did have experience
building workflow applications, the company lacked the BEA-specific
knowledge required to actually develop systems built on WLI. The
Client management felt that if they could find outside resources to
provide the needed BEA expertise, they could team their developers
with these resources to transition the knowledge and move quickly
through the learning curve.
The Client engaged Excella to
develop the purchase request workflow application using WLI and
transition the knowledge to an internal team of developers.
Excella first worked with The Client management to determine the
scope of the development, workflow, and business rules, as well as
what constituted a successful knowledge transfer. Excella then
developed all components of the new application, including the user
interface, workflow, business logic, and database. Throughout the
engagement, Excella managed the team of internal developers so that
they were learning the necessary skills to effectively take
ownership of the application. Finally, Excella redeployed the new
WLI application on The Client's corporate servers and delivered
comprehensive documentation, including screen flows, data models,
and step-by-step procedures for developing WLI-based
applications.
