Arlington, VA, November 12, 2019 – Excella, a leading Agile technology firm in the D.C. metro area, announced plans to undergo a corporate restructuring to advance its expanding client portfolio and spin-off its rapidly growing training division and award-winning Extension Center internship program.
In response to increasing market demand for its training and internship programs, the company has created a new organization, NextUp Solutions Inc., to focus its leadership, infrastructure, and investment in these growing markets.

Newly formed NextUp Solutions will deliver two distinct services, both centered on transformational learning: Agile/Scrum training and university-based technology apprenticeships. NextUp’s roster of instructors will continue to educate patrons on the benefits of Agile/Scrum practices via classes across a host of leading frameworks and methodologies. Steve Cooper will become the CEO of NextUp Solutions, while Burton White will serve as Excella’s CEO, along with Jeff Gallimore serving as CTIO.

Beginning in 2020, NextUp will launch the first Exelaration Center, formerly known as Excella’s Extension Center, based at Virginia Tech’s Corporate Research Center. Exelaration Centers will build custom technology-focused apprenticeships for corporate and non-profit organizations, with plans to establish Exelaration Centers at other universities beyond its headquarters in Virginia Tech’s Corporate Research Center.
“We saw the potential to share our mentor-based internship model by evolving to Exelaration Centers,” said Cooper. “Through our tech apprenticeship model, companies who are looking for a world-class internship program can now partner with an Exelaration Center to build their future workforce. We can use any company’s software development projects as the launch pad to create a job-ready, tech talent pipeline for any organization.”
The program was recently ranked #3 in Vault.com’s “2020 Best Tech & Engineering Internships.” Based on a nationwide survey of 14,000 current and former interns, the program is also ranked #6 for “Best internships for Employment Prospects” and #11 for “The 100 Best Internships.”
Excella will continue to support clients across the public and private sectors and plans to increase investments and focus on Agile and DevOps solutions, expand its AI offerings, and grow its footprint in new industries, markets, and across the U.S. Excella’s Agile approach, which it has come to be known for, will continue to be central to both companies. They will continue to collaborate on training for consultants, agile transformation for clients, and instructor opportunities for thought leaders and coaches.
